From Florence to Florida
While Hurricane Florence was intent on making an unwelcome arrival in the Carolinas this week, I decided I was tired of waking up at 5:30 am each morning to check the weather forecast and plan my evacuation route. So for the first time in the past few hurricane seasons, I left Charleston and headed South to Florida to visit my sister who just recently moved out to the country off Highway 301 between Jacksonville and Gainesville.
While I’m not entirely sure I’m well suited to country living, I did enjoy the small town vibes in the charming nearby town of Starke. This photo series shot with my iPhone 7 briefly documents the buildings in and around the town’s historic district, including a shot of my favorite building — a cinema that first opened in the 1940s. And yes, I totally saw a film while I was there. My thoughts go out to all who were impacted by Florence. While I’m grateful I was able to get away and make the most of the situation, not all were as fortunate.
