“There are only two places in the world where we can live happy:
at home and in Paris.”
Paris is one of those cities that I knew I'd fall in love with before I visited. I suppose it's that way for a lot of people. Truth be told, I've always wanted to live in France, whether it be in an artist loft in Paris or a cottage in the French countryside. Something about France is so romantic to me - a culture that embraces simple pleasures and beauty. I had a very brief stay in the city due to limited traveling time, so of course I spent my first evening picnicking on the lawns of the iconic Eiffel Tower. Pictures simply do not capture the magnitude of its beauty. I was in awe.
From rue's lined with classic Parisian housing to the alleys decorated in graffiti art to the peacefulness of Jardin du Luxembourg, I found myself enamoured by the city's contrasts. Especially noteworthy -- as with most cities in Europe -- is the architecture. From the gothic Cathedrale Notre Dame to the Louvre of the renaissance period to the neoclassical Arc de Triomphe, Paris has many sights; and one visit will not warrant enough time to see them all.
I stayed in a cute little apartment in a building that was formerly a convent, right in the heart of charming Montmartre -- just steps away from Sacré-Cœur and a train stop away from Moulin Rouge in Pigalle. It's easy to see why Montmartre has become a bit overrun with tourists, but if you take the time to wander the cobblestone streets, you'll capture a glimpse of what makes the neighborhood so interesting -- artists, brightly painted doors, and shops selling delectable macaroons are all in a day's journey in Paris.
While I would highly recommend sitting on the lawn enjoying the views of the Eiffel Tower, no trip would be complete without a pilgrimage to the top. Yes, it's a touristy thing to do. Yes, you'll be surrounded by many others doing the same thing as you. But trust me when I say it's worth it, especially if you go up to the highest viewing deck. Looking out across all of Paris from the top of its most iconic landmark - all while toasting champagne - is a moment not soon forgotten.
I wish I had more time on my trip to explore Paris, to soak in her culture, and to eat more amazing french cuisine! But, at least I have a reason to go back -- not that I ever really needed one to begin with. For now, it's au revoir, Paris -- I'll see you soon.

on the other side of the world.”
